According to Electric Fireplaces Direct Customer Service Specialist Lauren Ramsey, many customers preferred the size and convenience of a plug-in electric fireplace over a built-in, but their spaces did not accommodate it:
"The ClassicFlame plug-in fireplace inserts require the intake vent on the roof to have at least 2-3" of space above them, and that space has to be connected to your room so air can circulate. A lot of people had no way to accommodate this or just didn't want to mess with it so they would end up going a different direction or getting an electric fireplace insert that wasn't their first choice. I always tell people that a lot of people prefer the ClassicFlame plug-in fireplaces, but the need to vent was a huge drawback."
The new trim kits solve this problem by enabling you to easily convert a plug-in electric fireplace to a built-in electric fireplace. The trim looks like a black frame that goes around the outer edges of the box. It's only connected in a couple of places, which leaves a gap along the back. This gives you the space you need for the air to circulate and enables you to safely place a plug-in into an existing fireplace. You still need at least a couple of inches of air above the vent, but the trim takes care of the rest.
The trim kits also help improve the visual appeal of the electric fireplace. It helps fill in the extra space between the hearth and the wall, giving it a complete, finished look.
Flush Mount Flange Trim Kits were developed by Electric Fireplaces Direct and Twinstar ClassicFlame, and they are exclusively available through our site. You can purchase a trim kit by itself or in conjunction with a ClassicFlame plug-in fireplace insert.
