"Purchased in order to replace a Propane gas insert in our Family Room fireplace. Simple tomassemble and install. Whether on or off provides a very life-like appearance to our brick foreplace. Fireplace is on 4-6 hours each day. The "crackler" adds a great sound feature, should be built in to the electric insert itself. I used ash from the fireplace tomfill in around the ember bed below the log grate and that added tomthe realism. Year round we use our electric fireplaces, and now own a total of 6 (2 stoves and 4 fireplaces). The ease of use, safety of use vs. a gas insert, supplemental heat, and the overall appearance make these units thenway to go!"

"Just what we needed for our fireplace. Easy to set up (although the electrical connections are tiny, and I've got big, clunky hands) and realistic enough, especially behind a screen. The flat part that's supposed to look like fallen ash actually looks kind of like a puddle of vomit as supplied, but once we put some real ashes around it, it looks fine and adds to the realism of the unit. Heater isn't strong enough to heat a big room, and it makes a little bit of (fan) noise, but you can feel a bit of a "glow." Very satisfied."

I bought the insert. It took longer to unpack than to set it up. I was amazed at how realistic it looked! "I got my log set on Christmas Eve, and it was so nice to have for the holiday. My family loved it, and so do I. It adds ambiance and warmth to the room without any extra effort. "After reading mixed reviews, I was a bit unsure when ordering if the results would be worth the costs of the unit. I must say that I am really impressed with the end results. Could be more heat, but it does provide some and the flame is actually pretty nice. I can't say it looks totally real, but it adds a nice ambiance to the room. We installed in a masonry fireplace box win a lot of soot buildup, so the look is probably more real than in a clean opening. I like a wood burning fireplace, but ours doesn't draw that well and I am tired of the smoke if it is not a rocking fire. I am not sure why some seem to feel this was a difficult assembly as I had it operating in 15 minutes from opening the box. Pretty simple."

"I was worried reading some reviews that I would not be able to set this up. Had already called a handyman to help me. When I opened it up and looked it over, it took me about 10 minutes to connect all the wires. No big deal at all, very easy. No handyman needed! It is so beautiful when it is on and even looks real when it is off. I did not need an insert as my fireplace is a prefab so I only needed the logs and maybe the heater one day. I just love it and my friends also say it looks real to them. Could not have worked better for me."

"We can't burn wood or use gas, so this was our only option. We were hesitant, thinking "how good could it really look" and we are surprised. I would not go so far as to say it looks like real flames, but it does simulate the look enough to be what we wanted it to be and that was the look of a working fireplace. I wish the instructions had been written better."

"Pros: I bought this fire to go into a large existing old fireplace in a camp lodge. The masonry needs extensive work and is no longer safe to use as a fireplace, but we needed something warm and cozy feeling in there for our guests, not just a black hole. This was one of the more expensive fires and the biggest one I could find, but I think it was worth it. I looked around at several cheaper models first, and this looks beautiful and realistic when lit and glowing in the fireplace. The grate is metal and looks and feels real as well. I placed some real logs around the edges to fill up more of the space and it really added to the effect. Delivery was prompt and ordering was easy. Cons: While not really difficult to set up, it was not super easy either. However this is partly what makes it look so real. Each log is a separate unit, and needs to be set in place and plugged in. It felt a bit like doing a simple puzzle. The other thing I find irritating is that when the flame speed is on high, it sort of pulses, going really fast then really slow, which looks bad. So it's best set at a lower speed, which looks great."

"We're very happy with our purchase. It was delivered within a couple of days of ordering. It provides a realistic-looking fire without the odor we got from our previous unvented log set. Set up was moderately easy. The most difficult part was placing the logs in the right place on the grate. The diagrams of the logs on the instruction sheet are mostly rectangles and trapezoids, so it takes some time to figure out which of the log pieces correspond to the shapes in the instructions. Once that's done, one has to find the appropriate plug on the grate in which insert the plug on each log. It's more tedious than difficult. It would have been nice to have the logs and shapes numbered. After the assembly, I plugged it in and it immediately started. The remote is great for adjusting the speed of the flames and for setting the temperature you want the room. We bought The Crackler, which adds a realistic crackle to otherwise silent fireplace. It has three volume levels that the user can toggle through. I expected the heat might feel more like a freestanding electric heater, but it's quite a bit less. It has been capable of increasing the temperature in our family room (15 x 24) 3-4 degrees over an hour or two. It would have been nice to have a bit more heat, but I'm not disappointed. Overall, we enjoy the fireplace very much."

"When my husband and I built our home 40 years ago we enjoyed a real fire in our fireplace, but now that my husband is gone and I'm alone, at 81 years old it's just too much for me to haul in wood and haul out ashes. "Overall, very happy with the unit but does not work well in larger rooms - not enough heat. Instructions are vague WRT to arranging fake logs. I ended up printing a photo of the unit, arranged logs from that. Mine went into an existing brick fireplace. After sealing off the flue, I made a riser for the unit out of 2x4s and Hardy board, painting it flat black. This helps with the heat distribution and addressed an issue I had with the fresh-air feed built into the fireplace. Overall, am happy with the unit."

"I am not able to carry logs to my woodburning fireplace anymore so after looking at gas or electric decided to go electric. It was quite easy to put together, my sister and I did it in less than an hour. Much of the time we spent deciding where to place the logs, numbering system would have been nice. We are both senior citizens but were able to lift it up into the opening without losing the logs. Plugging in the embers after everything was in place was the most challenging! My room is quite large but it heats nicely, especially close to the fireplace. It looks so real, everyone who sees it loves it. Thank you for the fast and good service!"

"Glowing logs are very impressive by themselves. Looks like the real thing. The flames leave something to be desired. They repeat every few seconds. Heater is not sufficient but I didn't expect miracles since it's limited by 110v, 15amp circuit. Standard house wiring won't permit larger heaters and our fireplace is in the living room with 13 ft. cathedral ceiling. Using it for supplemental heat is futile but that didn't come as a surprise. Out of the box the motor support bracket that spins the, "flame" mechanism was bent and did not function smoothly. It was easy enough to straighten out plus I used a shim underneath the bracket so it would spin true. The bracket is very flimsy. Wasn't impressed with the design. Could have called Dimplex for a replacement bracket but no doubt it would be of the same quality. The glowing logs are amazing and that's where this product shines however, it's a little pricey given the less than stellar mechanical materials. Not sure how long it's going to last."

"If you don't like the look of an empty fireplace and are too lazy to light a fire buy this. It looks as real as an electric fire is going to look and gives off heat but don't expect to heat a room with it. It's well made but should be for what it costs. A little difficult to assemble. "I stopped using my fireplace & wanted something nice with heat to use. I researched all over the web & this by far was the best price & the customer service when calling them was excellent. The set-up was a little difficult for me as I couldn't get the logs the way I thought they looked the best. It would be nice if there were a few more logs. But, once I got it to my liking I love that it looks real & you have to get the cracking noise maker--it sounds real too! I wish it put off even more heat but nothing is perfect. The price is steep but you get what you pay for & this is about as real as it gets!"

"I live in the hot, humid South and had gas logs which were rarely used because they smelled and were way too hot except for maybe 2 days in January. I researched electric fireplaces and decided to buy this Dimplex unit. I gave my measurements to ElectricFireplacesDirect.com and they recommended 2 log sets. Shipping was fast and the product arrived without damage. Set up was somewhat confusing and their pictures were not clear as to what log went where in the grate. It was also not noted that the grate needs to be 4 inches out from the back wall of the firebox for maximum reflection so my grate is all the way to the front of my firebox. We found this reading the instructions. The screen curtain that was there for the gas logs had to be removed since there was no way for it to close with the grate legs hanging over the edges. The ember bed did not fit under the grate in this situation either so a friend cut 2 pieces of wood, painted them black and raised the grate 1.5 inches. The ember bed slid under the heater just enough to clear the raised front edge of my firebox. I had an electrician run power from an outlet which worked out great. I did not want the power cord running along the floor. I plan to add some lava rock and fire glass to the floor of my firebox. Also, saw a suggestion to paint it black for a stronger reflection. I do notice a humming noise when they are on and will inquire as to whether this is normal. I have really enjoyed this log set and would recommend its purchase."

"I couldn't be more pleased with my new electric fireplace log set! I'm a senior who has lived in the same house for 45 years. As arthritis made it harder and harder to carry in wood or artificial logs, the fireplace just took up space and was seldom used; and with an "all electric" home, gas logs were not an option. I really missed the beauty and comfort of a fire on cold Arizona winter evenings but now problem solved! I was able to set up the log set easily and am so happy with the look and quality of the Dimplex product as well as the ease and convenience of the "adjustments" made from the remote. Love it! The attractive design of the fireplace insert includes a real grate as well as a projected flame, hand finished logs and embers that glow and pulsate. This electric fireplace will make it easy for you to relax and enjoy a flickering, warm flame even at any time. This fireplace insert offers up to 400 square feet of supplemental heat. When customers purchase this log set, they find that it is extremely easy to set up and is realistic whether it is turned on or off. The attractive design of the fireplace insert works well in any existing wood or gas fireplace, and the realistic flames and burning embers flicker and glow just as a real fire would. Customers like the supplemental heat offered by the insert as well.

"Our fireplace had not been used for the eleven years we'd been in our house. It is gas only and when used, you can smell the gas. A friend told me about this product and gave me the site address. I bought the insert. It took longer to unpack than to set it up. I was amazed at how realistic it looked! The first time I had guests in the house, I opened the fireplace and picked up a log...one the ladies gasped as if I were picking up a hot log!

"We can't burn wood or use gas, so this was our only option. We were hesitant, thinking "how good could it really look" and we are surprised. I would not go so far as to say it looks like real flames, but it does simulate the look enough to be what we wanted it to be and that was the look of a working fireplace.

"Wanted a wall fireplace and darned if they don't make them. Wanted for two person administrative office for some toasty ambiance. The boss has a floor model in is office. So impressed with this fireplace that we bought a set for our fireplace at home and got rid of gas logs."

"There are ways to improve the realism of both fire and logs, also the mat, a few added design features would greatly improve the realistic appearance. I have modified mine to give that appearance, people are pretty amazed. I am a designer so the more realistic the better thats why i modified mine. even if the cost were increased to do modifications i think people wouldn't care, the more real the sales. Thanks I am enjoying it."

"If you don't like the look of an empty fireplace and are too lazy to light a fire buy this. It looks as real as an electric fire is going to look and gives off heat but don't expect to heat a room with it. It's well made but should be for what it costs. A little difficult to assemble. I'd describe it as it's a a lamp/blow dryer that looks like a fire. All things considered I'm happy with it."

"We use the product as a decorative fireplace. A local vendor quoted us $5,000 to $8,000 to replace our existing fireplace with a new sealed gas unit. My brother in law suggested we look at electric inserts and even that was going to be too much money. I looked into these log set inserts and really liked the looks of them. I ordered this unit and the whole installation process was simple and it looks great."

"This is a great fireplace log set! The Velcro attachments that hold the logs in place are a bit tricky to set, but they do work. We set it up in a room that has wide openings to other rooms, so the heater is not as effective as it would be in a closed room. Nonetheless, it does a good job of supplementing heat from the house furnace."

The logs were easy to set up and I loved the freedom of being able to arrange them myself resulting in a very realistic display. The product produces a moderate amount of heat, but is still really nice to back up to on a cold day. "This set gives off the glow of a real wood-burning fire. I put it in a wood-burning fire place to take the place of hauling logs into the room where this fireplace is located. I have two fireplaces in my home. One is now wood-burning and this one is electric. It quickly spoils you to just push a button and have a glowing fireplace. I am very happy with my purchase."

Love it! Works great!"
