"I love this unit. I had the same one in the fireplace I bought in 2006. Unfortunately my cat wanted to call it his own and damaged the original. This is the exact same model and was easy to remove the old one and replace it with the new one in my mantle. Buying from electronic fireplaces direct saved me a lot of money."

"I have this item in my "Man Cave". It is awesome!!! I previously had the same item for at least 12 years but it finally gave out. It gives off enough heat to heat "The Cave" so I can comfortable enjoy my big screen TV. I have no cons to mention. It was a great buy and I highly recommend it!"

"We installed two Dimplex units in our house to replace wood burning fireplaces as we converted our house into two rental units. We wanted to eliminate the liability and maintenance associated with having renters using real fireplaces. We will live in main floor unit for a couple of years, and we are enjoying our unit immensely. Easy to install and operate. The flame and logs looks quite realistic. We don't use the heat options very often, but enjoy it when we do. Love the remote control too. Constructive criticism: The half moon back screen could be improved for better realistic look."

"I live in an 1740 PA stone farmhouse with 6 fireplaces I bought these as the costs of wood became exorbitant and too messy. They look good but the heaters don't always work nor the fan working. "Because of my husband's medical problems we could no longer have a wood fire...so, this one replaced a woodburning fire in our fireplace. It looks very realistic, get some heat from it...we have large livingroom and, of course, it is not made to heat a large room or your whole house. It works great for us because I can still have the beautiful "effect" of a fire in the fireplace. Ours is very quiet..we LOVE it, when it wears out we will buys another of the same product. If we downsize houses, my husband can build a fireplace frame for it and we can still use it. Was a good buy!!!!"

"This is my second purchase of the same fireplace insert...that speaks for itself! I bought my first one about ten years ago...loved it so much I bought my second one! It is beautiful - as realistic as you can be without being real wood and flame. It comforts me and welcomes others. Wonderful addition to sitting in a comfy chair and enjoying a good book - and maybe a cup of tea! When I was searching online for a new insert, I couldn't remember the name...and then accidentally stumbled onto it! Look no further!...and the service was prompt, polite and more than efficient! Do I recommend? 100%! I know I have not been disappointed - both times! Enjoy!"

"I have an existing wood burning fireplace that was such a headache to use and clean, I sealed the opening with Plexiglass and blocked it with a large entertainment center. Came upon this website and started to review electric inserts with the hopes of using the fire box again. Opted to purchase this model for a small wedding hosted at my home. Boy...am I glad I did!!! Shipping was fast and free. It arrived 2 days earlier than expected. The packaging was a bit heavy and hard to get into....but once I saw the product, I was glad the extra attention to packing. Packaging made sure it was secured and in perfect shape. Immediately plugged it in and started playing with the remote and buttons. LOVE the safety feature of the remote bypassing curious young fingers (my grandson). The heat is enough to take the edge off my medium sized living room, working well with my gas furnace. There is a small hum type sound, but not enough to complain about or distracting. Kinda like "white noise" that didn't interfere with tv/stereo volume. As night drew down, the insert REALLY looked awesome! So awesome that my fiancé and I began building a fancy decorated wooden surround to apply to the brick fireplace opening to REALLY focus on our new toy! All in all....I'm extremely pleased with the product and quality. After I become a Mrs.....I plan on purchasing a wall mount unit for my bedroom. Really glad I found your website. Great products, friendly service, fast shipping, amazing prices. I'm happy that I can finally use the pit that once was one of my biggest "pains in the pit" of my home!!!"

"We moved into a house with no chimney and miss our wood fireplace as we live in the midwest where one is almost necessary. After extensive research and customer reviews, I purchased the Dimplex 23" Standard Electric Log/Heater. We had an existing vent free fireplace which used gel cans. It put out a lot of heat but the odor was unpleasant. My husband was able to remove the gel insert and, with a few easy modifications, just insert the Dimplex heater. What a difference! The flames are very realistic and heater is almost noiseless. The only thing we would like to see changed is a stronger motor to push the heat into the room. We would definitely purchase this again and recommend it to anyone looking for a very realistic (not cheesy) flame, logs and heat solution for vent free fireplace. Everyone who sees it comments on our "real" fireplace."

I had to call Dimplex to find out that the units were incompatible, despite the sizes being correct and the trim kit and fireplace both being made by Dimplex. Very disappointing that the units don't work together and that the salesperson from Fireplaces Direct was uninformed the products they sell."

"No longer need to lug firewood and build messy fires! So realistic and all you need to do is push your remote button. Warms the room and adds ambiance. Have shown neighbors that were looking for options for their older wood burning fireplaces, versus having expensive gas lines dug for gas logs. Has made this terribly cold winter here in Ohio more bearable! Just took it out of the box and plugged it in. You might need to have an electrician install an electrical source in your old fireplace. We already had it due to an old fan system. Great price and very quick delivery. So much better than those old electric logs of the past!"

"Did a lot of research before purchasing this model. Decided to write a review, because that is what helped me with my decision. The video of the flame is very accurate. Fast shipping also. Very easy to install. We are very pleased that the logs and flame look so real. We bought it mostly for the flame, but will surely use the heater, as we live in northern Illinois. Stressed over this decision , but now that it is set up we are very glad we purchased this one. We replaced a 28" LP gas log. We were concerned that it would look too small, but it looks fine. This insert looks more real than the actual flames of the gas log. We no longer have to worry about the price of LP gas, the fumes, or fire. No more opening the flue. I just sit in my chair and turn it on with the remote. Nothing negative to say about this item."

"My hubby was so impressed with this he told me, "you have to write a review about this, it's perfect!" It is better than we thought we would be able to have! We have a beautiful stone fireplace but the chimney was no good & we couldn't replace it without tearing out the whole thing. So we thought, what do we have to lose? If it's too fake looking we will send it back & just put candles in the firebox. It is really very nice, good size, nice flame, very well constructed. We can't wait until our company over the holidays see it. They will love it!"

"Space was an issue. Bought the log insert, placed a fire screen in front and I was able to use it in any room. Just pick up and move it. Dimplex has the VERY BEST realistic fire of any. I tried other and now have 2 Dimplex. Electricfireplacesdirect.com. Outstanding and kept their word. I tried one type fireplace and found the flame unrealistic. Electricfireplacesdirect.com took the return with no strings attached. Refunded quickly. I then purchased the Dimples log insert again from Electricfireplacesdirect.com and BINGO perfect with quick delivery. I am now looking at a type stove through this company. I am known as one who searches the net for a quality product from a reliable company. Dimplex and Electricfireplacesdirect.com make a great team."

"I was looking for alternative for a existing wood burning fireplace. Thinking gas, but gezzzz, that was going to be $3000-$4000. I'd looked at electric several years ago, specifically Dimplex, but still wasn't impressed with the realistic look of the fire. Technology has finally reached my level of expectations. I'm willing to pay the price if I think I'm getting my money's worth. I needed a small unit to heat the living room and keep the firebox from being another hole in the wall allowing heat to escape. I read every review listed about the log inserts offered and thought I'd take a chance on this design because it definitely fit my budget. I did take the existing firebox apart and removed a section that was prohibiting the blowing heat off the unit to blow into the room instead of into the existing metal. I'm heating an area approximately 900 sq ft, main level. I turned the heat down, the unit on and it took about 30 minutes for the unit on high to increase the thermostat indicator two degrees. I've never had the unit increase the inside temperate more than two degrees and I have new windows and doors. The unit was on for about 4 hours and I have not run it longer than this with the exterior temperature ranging 30-40 degrees. I hope this helps those who do not feel the unit provides much heat a better gauge of the heating production of a space. I kept the existing wood fireplace insert-modified as well as the screen coverage. I also purchased the sound crackler for atmosphere when I want the feel of a wood fireplace without the smoke, maintenance, and a hole in the wall allowing heat to escape!"

"I am so impressed with how realistic the flame is. However, part of how that is accomplished is by the use of reflective glass at the back. When the lights are low in the room at night, the flames look so real that you can hardly believe they are not real. But if there are lights on in the room, you see reflections of the light and the room in the glass. So this does not look realistic and actually looks a little strange. Also during the day, I have to put the screen across the fireplace, because the insert looks strange with the light reflections on the glass at the back of the fireplace and the unrealistic looking logs. We have gas ceramic logs in another fireplace and the logs are very realistic, even when the "fire" is not lit. However, the cost to have the gas on and all the heat going up the chimney means that we use it only for special occasions. With this electric insert, I put it on every night. I am getting use to the reflections, but it is a distraction. So that is the trade off. Also, the remote only turns the fire on and of. It does not work for the heat controls. So if you want to turn on the heater, which adds almost no heat to the room (even on the high setting), then you have to reach into your fireplace to the insert, in order to access the switch. I still would highly recommend this insert and I love having it on every night."

"We love our new fireplace. We had gotten to the point that we only burned the fireplace at Christmas. Now we turn it on and enjoy a fire several times a week. Family has visited and thought we had bought gas logs. The only problem we have had and it is addressed in the paperwork is when we have the heat on high and all the Christmas decorations turned on, the breaker has tripped several times. On low heat we haven't had a problem with too many things running on the circuit. I would give it 5 stars if they could get around needing a dedicated circuit to run on high heat. We can handle low heat only until the Christmas decorations come down and then see what happens when we run it on high. It was hot on Christmas Eve - we had to turn on the air conditioning - but we were still able to enjoy a fire with flames only for Christmas pictures. We wish we would have made this purchase a long time ago!"

"As a senior, I enjoy the added warmth to my environment for not merely the heat, but as a focal point for reverie. The "flames" offer a visual resting place that often brings about fond memories. From a practical and life style aspect, of course, no longer being challenged by heavy logs and cleaning out soot is a positive. The shipping was immediate and the protective packing was next to a work of art. My mild criticism has to do with the reflections of room contents upon the mirrored glass. Also, would double layers of reflective glass offer more DEPTH to the illusion of flames? I would like another for a second fireplace. Good website."

"I was looking for an alternative to burning DuraFlame logs. Especially as in San Jose we are subject to "No Burn" restrictions on "spare the air" days. A gas insert would have been very expensive. This is what drove to consider an electric option. The Dimplex 23-inch deluxe electric fireplace insert is a perfect solution and the price is very reasonable. I was skeptical as to how realistic the electric flames would be but I was pleasantly surprised that they look great. The ambiance it creates is wonderful and with 3 heat settings (Off, Medium, High) you can light it up summer through winter. I can highly recommend it."

"This is my second insert of the same model in 5 years. I live in Florida and have a wood burning fireplace that I used to burn real wood, then fake logs and now my Dimplex insert. I first saw a Dimplex insert in a non-working fireplace in a high end home theater store. It looked so good that I open the screen and wrote down the name. The reason I am on my second insert is that I run the system a lot (certainly without the heat) for mood lighting. It's a great effect and very relaxing. Would highly recommend using this insert for anyone looking for a legitimate fireplace effect without the mess and cleanup."

It is so beautiful and with the addition of a water glass fire screen no one knows that its not real...especially when the heater is on. Its also extremely quiet. "This product was the perfect solution to a former wood burning fireplace that could not be used for health reasons. How simple to set up, just open the box, place it in the fireplace and plug it in- instant realistic fire without health hazzards and mesy clean up. I wanted a really nice looking fire without the heat and this was the perfect product and cannot say enough about it. Use the heat only rarely because it was not the primary purpose for my needs. I would recommend this product without hesitation. Even the crackler sounds good."

"We have a wood burning fireplace that I decorate with candles in the warmer months for a focal point. I wanted something that would be attractive in winter, as well as provide some extra heat to the room. I love the way it looks. I added Mexican black landscape rocks to the floor around the unit, which gives it a finished look. We'll have to see how much heat the unit adds to our room. Our ceiling is vaulted, so it gets pretty chilly on winter nights."

"This is my third duraflame. I gave #1 to my brother. #2 could have been fixed (the bulbs burnt out) but I decided on an upgrade. I have a log insert for a 1940s gas fireplace with a beautiful surround. I tried other electric fireplaces, but this one has the best flame and its the flame I am really interested in. I work at home and hated the dark, empty fireplace. With a flame in the fire box, I love the room. Only problem is everyone wants to come in here now and I can't get as much work done"

"I use the product for the look and also for heat. It is easy to install and is safe to use. i have a lot of problem with the heat component. It needs a lot of resetting to turn on the heat. A big disappointment to learn dimplex does not replace the unit when it does not work as their warranty of one year is misleading. It only covers parts, no replacement or install for part provided. My unit was delivered mid Dec 2016 and rarely used. Barely 5 weeks old, put in my complain with Electric Canada who was quick to direct me to technical support of Dimplex. The company only provides parts. My first purchase online and I am really disappointed."

"I would like to start this review off with, I love this fireplace insert!! I am at a point in my life that after years of work & mess involved with burning wood & coal I decided to hang it up as much as I love a real fire. I have been aware of electric fireplaces but I thought no way they could compare with a real fireplace. I Googled electric fireplaces & found this website. I read reviews & looked at videos on youtube of several of them in my price range. I decided on this one & and was not disappointed. In a darkened room it looks very realistic, most people would swear it is a real fire. The flames look very real & the log embers pulsate as the flames shoot around them. I love that I can have a "fire" anytime I want at the click of a button with out all the hastle. It puts out a fair amount of heat & the fan is very quiet but if you need one for heating a large room, look for one with a higher wattage . The bottom part of the back is a mirror which is to reflect the logs & give depth to the fireplace but in a lighted room at certain viewing angles you will see a reflection of the room, no biggie but worth mentioning. Overall, I am very pleased with my insert & highly recommend it."

"Our older home (1936) has a brick fireplace that is the central focus of the house. We had wood fires in it for the first several years we lived here, but in recent years have not. We wanted to be able to have the ambiance of a fire any time we wanted, and to be able to turn it off and not worry about it when we went upstairs to our TV room/bedroom. Also did not want to clean put the ashes any more. This does it very well. It fills a niche for people like us who just want the comforting ambiance of a fairly believable fire on demand without the mess and the safety issues. Would not use it as a major heat source, although it does put out some warmth, and we have not tried it on high."

"Our full masonry fireplace never gets used any more and when we modernized the nearly 20' high indoor brick facade, we knew we wouldn't be burning wood any more. Since our home is all electric, we only had a few options. We looked at all the Dimplex models including the very realistic Opti-Myst, but at nearly $1000, that was not really in our budget. We saw this and the Revillusion locally and the DFI2310 sold there for $100 more. Had a hard time bringing myself to spend that much on something I'll likely use a couple times a year. Electric Fireplaces Direct was a great alternative. I ordered the TUESDAY before Christmas and had it by FRIDAY! We had a great family gathering and enjoyed the look and warmth on Christmas Day. Only 2 things I'll mention about my CONs. If the sun is shining, or a lot of lights are on, the mirror glass that displays the flames also reflects some movement in the room. If the fan is on HIGH, its a bit noisy in a quiet room. Not obtrusively loud, but noticeable. We are happy with the choice, did not really like the way the Revillusion looked and it cost more."

"The embers appear fine from a distance but when standing close to the fireplace and looking down there is white light showing where there should be red embers so we are wondering whether there is a cover or piece of fireplace missing. We will check with a local dealer to see if this is how it is supposed to be or a flaw. If it is how it should be, this is not good enough for an otherwise great fireplace. And if this is a flaw, this is not good either. How annoying given this is probably the best insert of this kind available."

I missed my fires and was researching converting to gas. I came across the option of an insert and liked the simplicity but worried it would look cheap. After doing a lot of research I selected this log insert. I am blown away by how realistic this looks! Placed behind my glass fireplace doors it looks like a gas fireplace. It was received within a very reasonable time frame and I installed it myself within half an hour from delivery. Q & A

My fireplace has a glass door, will this still work and give heat as well?

The heater is on the bottom of the unit. The glass doors will need to be open when in use to allow heat to flow into the room.

I how long is the power cord and what side is it on if you're looking at it from the front

The cord is 6ft. long and located on the right side facing the unit.

Do you just run the cord out of the front of your fireplace. I have an outlet on the wall to the right side of my fireplace will that work?

Yes you can. The cord is 6ft long and exits from the right side of the unit.

I'm confused on this fireplace, the video says it stays cool to the touch so is safe for children and pets. But it puts out heat as well. So does that mean while in use it stays cool to the touch?

The top and about 3" down does get hot when the heats is on. You are able to turn off the heat and still enjoy the image of the flame. The logs and the flame image are cool to touch.

Yes it stays cool to the touch. Sent from my iPhone

There is a blower along the top edge where the heat blows out. You can turn it on for heat or off for just the flame effect. The "logs" and screen stay cool.

Yes, it does throw out heat but only the top portion, where the heat comes out, gets warm to the touch, but not hot. The rest of the unit does not get warm. Sent from my iPhone

This unit gets warm but is not hot to the touch. My cats lay around it and we sit on the hearth in front of it. It keeps my large living room comfortably warm. I hope this answers your question. Sent from my iPhone

The heat is discharged through the vents at the very top facing the room (this is the only place that is warm to the touch). The rest of the fireplace can be handled and touched. You have an option of having the heat on or off. If the heat is on it does get very warm. Not what you would want a child to touch. Sent from my iPhone

As you facing the fireplace, which side does the plug come from? I need to install an outlet in the fireplace.

The plug is located on the back right side when facing the fireplace.

Can this unit be used in a tv cabinet with opening measurements of 18" width, 22" hgt, 15" depth? The size of the actual cabinet is 39" width, 32" hgt, 18" depth. The cabinet is completely empty with open back.

The dimensions of the unit are 23.188'' W x 19.625'' H x 10.813'' D. You could slide it in from the back but will be covering 2.5" on each side.

Do you just run the cord out of the front of your fireplace. I have an outlet on the wall to the right side of my fireplace will that work?

Yes you can. The cord is 6ft long and exits from the right side of the unit.

If I install it in my 50+ year old fireplace, does this require a working fireplace flue/chimney? In other words, how much heat will be rising up from the unit, rather than blowing outward from the unit?

This unit does not require a chimney or flue. It is designed to be used in an existing fireplace and the heat will blow out of the front of the unit into the room.

How do you replace the light bulb?

Please refer to page 11 of the owner's manual. http://www.dimplex.com/cms/publications/7205650300R03_EN.pdf

I see that the bulb type on the 23 inch deluxe electric fireplace insert is an incandescent bulb. Do you offer this same insert with a LED bulb? Would this give the same affect? I've heard the LED is more economical to run and lasts longer.

This unit uses both LED for logs and incandescent for the flame effect. It is a very realistic flame effect.

I'm not clear on differences between standard & delux models - is it more logs, brighter bulbs, more 'flame' effect?

The deluxe model has LED lit log set offering a more realistic flame effect.

What is the difference between the standard and deluxe models?

The Deluxe model has updated with hand painted logs and ember bed creating a natural inner glow. The logs are LED lit.

I think it has to do with the LED lights which look more real. Our previous one we had for several years and the cord started heating up; so we decided on the deluxe this time. Very pleased with it.

I am a bit confused. Does this unit have to be placed inside an existing fireplace? This has to be vented then? I am in the middle of construction, and thought of this sitting outside up against a new wall and finding an antique mantle to go around it? Would I have to build some type of brick around it? Would this unit be appropriate?

Please contact our customer service department at 1-866-966-1122.

This is ELECTRIC so no products of combustion and therefore no need for any vent. No need for any brick around it either. But it would look better framed in with something and the lighter the back wall, the more brilliant the flame which is very realistic.

Does this have variable control heat or is it just one speed blower? Is the heat controllable with the remote?

It is low/high heat and can be adjusted using the remote.

We love it. So realistic. Two settings. Low/High. Can not control setting with remote. Just push one setting. It will stay there 'til you switch manually. Recommend highly.  Sent from my iPhone

It has a 2 speed blower but not controllable by the remote. We love ours. Sent from my iPhone

It does have a remote and the heat is adjustable. Sent from my iPhone

Do you have to use the trim kit

The DFI2310 is available for purchase without the trim kit.

Does this insert have a crackling sound, and if so does that feature have controls?, I'm looking for the most authentic electric fireplace insert. Thanks

This unit does not have a built in crackler however the device can be purchased separately.

I have a majestic zero clerance fireplace and was wondering if the df12310 model would fit my firebox.I have the width across the frontI WAS worried about the back because the way the firebox is tapered.

Minimum fireplace dimensions are 24W x 21.5H x 12D

do you have any other colors?

It is only available in black

Is this more realistic then the standard a d can it be used in a faux kiva fireplace e or wooden cabinet

Yes it has an upgraded LED lit log set. You must allow for ventilation around the unit. You cannot block air intake vents.

We want to build a faux kiva style fireplace can this unit be used in that

You must allow for ventilation around the unit. You cannot block air intake vents. Fireplace insert requires reflection for flame effect.

can I install it in a wood frame

Yes, it is electric and it can be installed virtually anywhere

This looks very nice. I want to install it in an existing fireplace. In the pictures I don't see a plug and cord coming out of the hearth. How do you install so it so you can't see the cord? I think it would look really weird to just have the cord going to a plug.

You can creatively disguise the cord with fireplace accessories, etc. on the hearth or have an outlet installed inside the fireplace opening.

No this item can not be used with a see thru fireplace. It has a back 19" high the flame reflects on. You could however, place 2 inserts back to back to be viewable from each side.

Can this unit be left on without supervision ?

Manufacturer warns against leaving electrical appliances unattended for extended periods of time.

How long is the power cord?

the power cord is 6 ft. long.

Can this be used in a pre-fab wood fire place and can you use an extension cord so cord will reach outlet plug?

Manufacturer warns against the use of extension cords, You warranty will be voided if damage to unit is caused by using extension cord. Your unit will not function properly.

Yes and yes as long as you make sure it will fit Sent from my iPad

Yes to both questions. Sent from my U.S. Cellular® Smartphone

yes to both Questions

Wood is OK as long as it doesn't touch the upper air flow vent. It is about 18" long by 1 inch wide. I just measured the low setting temperature and it is about 185 F. Caution, there is no thermostat as it blows hot all time. Running on high blows a circuit breaker so I wouldn't recommend it nor would I recommend an extension cord because on low the cord is warm to the touch. The remote is only off and on. Note: It is a poorly designed electric fireplace using cheap Styrofoam to simulate logs and red tape to simulate fire. It uses incandescent bulbs to provide simulated fire instead of LED bulbs. It is major surgery to dissemble the unit to change the bulbs or any other repair. Use with Email me direct if you have any other questions about the unit.

Mike, I would say yes to both parts of your question. A word of advise, use a heavy enough cord on the extention to avoid over heating.

Yes it can. My fireplace is not prefab, but it is an antique mantel enclosure I found at a junk store and refinished (7 layers of paint...ugh). My carpenter added deeper sides and put a larger top on it for me using layered glued wood that I stained along with the new trim and old wood. The fireplace looks great! I then ordered an ornate wrought iron screen and when we turn it on, you cannot tell it isn't real.....except for no crackle of burning wood AND NO CLEANUP. We love it. We joke, " honey, build a fire" and then we hit the remote. It's great! Sent from my iPad

Yes to both your questions, the unit does not give off any appreciable heat to the sides or rear nor does it use a massive amount of electricity. I would use a quality extension cord and reserve it solely for use by the fireplace just to be safe.

We understand that this trim expands . What is the actual width of the trim itself? 3 inches? 4inches? Thanks Millie and Dan Colton

The expandable trim is 3.9" wide.

Can this unit be inserted into a deep wooden mantel, built against a wall with no flue or chimney?

There is no ventilation needed. It does require reflection for the flame effect.

Does this insert have a crackling sound, and if so does that feature have controls?, I'm looking for the most authentic electric fireplace insert. Thanks

It does not make a crackling sound however you can purchase a Fire Crackler separately.

Sent from my iPhone Not a built in crackler but I did get an accessory that makes a crackling sound.  It has two levels of sound and is about 3"x2".  You turn it on and off via a switch.  You can place it anywhere in the room.  I like the insert very much and think it is very authentic.

It came with a free crackler that normally sold for $29.99. The crackler has two controls loud and louder. It does sound authentic.

It can have a crackling sound if you pay extra. Let me give you some sound advice. This unit is terrible. It has no thermostat to turn off the heat. The wire is too small to carry the current and gets hot. The simulated logs are cheap Styrofoam. They have stick on fire simulators. Attached is a picture of the cheap construction. It uses regular incandescent bulbs that require major surgery to replace. The remove has only two functions on/off. I only use mine as a decoration without heat. To sum it up this is a very poorly constructed Chinese made electric fire place that is dangerous to use. The company will do nothing. You can get a much better unit from a local store and less expensive. Good luck L Lee Parmeter Biloxi, MS

How long is the plug in cord? If it isn't more than 9 feet I will need to get an extension cord. what quality of extension cord do you recommend?

The cord is 6 ft. Extension cords are not recommended.

We understand that this trim expands . What is the actual width of the trim itself? 3 inches? 4inches? Thanks Millie and Dan Colton

The expandable trim is 3.9" wide.

I would like to use this insert in an existing media cabinet in my living room. Would that be safe?

It is safe. The logset requires reflection for the flame effect. Minimum opening requirements are 24wX21.5hX12d.

What is the difference between the deluxe set and the standard set?

The Deluxe set has an updated log set with LED inner lit logs.

Is there an option that allows using the flame without the heat?

The flame function is independent of the heater for year around enjoyment.

Does this model have variable temperature control (e.g. low-medium-high)? Likewise does it have variable fan speeds (low-medium-high)? If so, in either case, are these controllable from the remote? (It appears that the remote only does "on" and "off").

The blower is one speed. The remote is on/off only. There is a hi/low temperature setting.

Does this model have a thermostat control?

It does not have a thermostat. It has high/low heat settings.

I have a double sided fireplace that opens into the dining room and the living room. Will this unit work and look "real" from both sides? If not, can you recommend one?

All of the inserts we carry are designed for a 1 sided fireplace. You would have 2 purchase 2 and place them back to back.

My firebox is tapered. The back width is 19 across, and the front is 33 wide. 15 deep. will this product work in my firebox?

The unit is 23.21" W x 19.5" H x 10.64" D. You will need to measure back 11" and see if the width is greater than 23.21. If so it will fit. You can tape the dimensions inside to be sure.

I don't think so. My front is 23". However you can see about 2-3 inches of wall on each side. The insert just sits there it does not hook on to anything The depth is about 11". Rather than go through the bother of returning it and the expense I'm just dealing with it but not too happy The firebox itself is good and would be great if it fit better I think you would have more space on either side than I do Sent from my iPad

I think it will work. Mine is tapered as well. Also, I love it!!!

Sure.. My fireplace is "V"- shaped in the back which does limit how far into the firebox I can set the unit. It is 23" deep and 28" wide. The unit I have fits nicely into my fireplace. Since yours is 19" across the interior back wall of the box, that should help to move the unit further into the fireplace. The 15" depth is shallow so I don't know how to respond to that. Electric Fireplace Direct has sizing information that should be helpful. I believe you can return it if it doesn't fit. As for the units appearance when on; we love it and it looks great. Hope this helps. Steve

The insert is tapered to 18" in the back and only 10" deep. It should fit. My fire box has similar dimensions and it looks great! Sent from my iPhone

Sent from my iPhone Hi! ...my fireplace has very similar dimensions...the back of my fireplace is vertical but the depth of the insert is 10"s still leaving 6"s from the back of the fireplace... ...and i am loving my fireplace insert for the VISUAL effects. ...i learned the hard way -- when i received my first very high electric bill for December on the California northwest coast -- that for my 400 square feet living room, it was fine for moderately cold days (i.e. In the 50's) but could not keep the room warm during a cold winter storm (below 50 degrees) without leaving it on for the entire 24 hours -- ergo the high electric bill!! ...AND, i still use it for the ceramic fireplace effects that add "warmth" to my living room even when i have the insert heater off and my old propane heater on... ...for many reasons, i am choosing not to use the fireplace to burn wood...and i love the appearance of an open fire. Hope that helps with your decision-making! jazzmyn?

How long is the electrical cord and can an extension cord be added?

The cord is 5- 6 ft. long. Extension cords are not recommended.

Does this fireplace has an adjustable rate on the blower ie. high, med., low?

The blower is on/off only.

What is the trim kit?

The trim kit is used to finish the look of the fireplace. It is adjustable to fit your fireplace opening and has a spark screen.

can I install it in a wood frame

Yes, it is electric and it can be installed virtually anywhere

My fireplace has a glass door, will this still work and give heat as well?

The heater is on the bottom of the unit. The glass doors will need to be open when in use to allow heat to flow into the room.

You would have to install an outlet inside of the fireplace.

Can this unit be left on without supervision ?

What are the demons ions if the top part of this? I'm wondering if I can slide it behind the flue pull. I have five inches behind it.

The dimensions are 23.188'' W x 19.625'' H x 10.813'' D.

Can this be used with only the flames, no heat, for just ambience?

You can use the flame independent of the heat function for year around enjoyment.

can this be used in a fireplace with chimney closed off

Yes there is no need for a chimney with electric fireplaces.

can i use an extension cord?

No, that is not recommended.

What is the white halo behind the logs in the video?

The light/flame reflection

Is there an option that allows using the flame without the heat?

The flame function is independent of the heater for year around enjoyment.

Where is the plugin cord and how long is it?

On the right hand side as you face the unit. On the back side. I estimate the cord to be approximately 6' long.  We are really enjoying our new fireplace  Sent from my iPhone

Lower left rear and about 36" Best regards,     Ralph Ruggiero

Ours was underneath the fireplace floor- small access in the front. Cord was maybe 3' long( don't remember but was long enough for us to plug in. The directions said cord could not be within a certain distance from front sides and back of insert so we weaved it behind firewall making sure cord was not pinched Sent from my iPhone

We want to build a faux kiva style fireplace can this unit be used in that

You must allow for ventilation around the unit. You cannot block air intake vents. Fireplace insert requires reflection for flame effect.

does this have the water filling part to make it have real smoke effect?

This is a trim kit compatible with Dimplex models DFI2309 and DFI2310 only.

No. It's just a frame that goes around the electric fireplace. Make sure the frame is compatible with the fireplace that you are buying. The representative from Electric Fireplaces Direct sold me this trim kit together with a Dimplex Fireplace that was self-trimming. They were not compatible and the trim kit was a huge waste of time and money. Terry ###- Please type your reply above this line -### Can you answer Leah's question about this product? How realistic do the logs look when the unit is off? Also the embers? And is the fan loud or quiet?

Dimplex is known for having the most realistic looking logs, if the room is silent you may notice a slight hum.

can this be used in a fireplace with chimney closed off

Yes there is no need for a chimney with electric fireplaces.

How do you get it plugged into outline without having a cord sticking out the front (we currently have a wood burning fireplace with mantle. This is for my condo in Wisconsin Dells

You would have to install an outlet inside of the fireplace.

I'm wanting to replace my vent free gas logs with dimples 23 inch electric fireplace insert. My question is for safety purposes do I need to have a separate circuit breaker for this plug in outlet. And is there a limit to the number of hours you should run the unit? Also is this available in LED?

This unit does not require a dedicated circuit breaker and it is not available with LED bulbs. The manufacture has not set a limit on the usage.

will this work in front of a fake fireplace mantle? The dimensions seem to work but I wonder if anyone else has just propped it up under the fake mantel and then just added a screen in front to make it seem real. It is designed to be placed in an existing fireplace. It requires reflection for the flame effect. I believe you can achieve this look.

Do you have to use the trim kit

The DFI2310 is available for purchase without the trim kit.

Is this more realistic then the standard a d can it be used in a faux kiva fireplace e or wooden cabinet

Yes it has an upgraded LED lit log set. You must allow for ventilation around the unit. You cannot block air intake vents.

On this deluxe model which side is cord, facing the unit left or right side?

The cord is on the right side facing the unit.

As you facing the fireplace, which side does the plug come from? I need to install an outlet in the fireplace.

The plug is located on the back right side when facing the fireplace.

What is the depth?

This item is just a trim kit. Not a firebox.

What is the white halo behind the logs in the video?

The light/flame reflection

Does it make a crackling sound?

No it does not make sounds. You can purchase the optional fire crackler sound system for realistic fire sounds.

the power cord is 6 ft. long.

Is the flame size and brighrness adjustable?

The flames are not adjustable.

I previously bought this log insert and used a free standing guard on the hearth which looked very nice. I have now purchased the trim kit but I am not sure if it is supposed to fit completely inside the opening or if it should trim the brickwork on the outside. Please advise. Thanks Pat

It is used to add a finished look to your fireplace opening. It will overlap the brick work on the outside.

Can this unit be used on outdoor covered patio?

This unit is designed for indoor use only.

The electric insert must be installed in an opening with the minimum dimensions 24 in. (61 cm) wide, 21.5 in. (54.6 cm) high and 12 in. (30.5 cm) deep. The fireplace does not require any additional venting. You must allow for air circulation around the unit.

Sent from my iPhone

the hole in the fireplace 34w & 19h. Will this work?

This is an expandable trim kit to be used with Dimplex 23" log set. It expands to fit from 24.5" W x 19.5" H to 43" W x 28.5" H. It is not the log set.

I'm not clear on differences between standard & delux models - is it more logs, brighter bulbs, more 'flame' effect?

The deluxe model has LED lit log set offering a more realistic flame effect.

Can this be used with only the flames, no heat, for just ambience?

You can use the flame independent of the heat function for year around enjoyment.

I am looking to make my own TV console fireplace combo using an old cabinet found at a thrift store. As long as I allow for the minimum height, width etc. could this be doable? My one concern is any heat transfer into the wood...also I am assuming a glass front is not needed unlike the ones found in stores for a considerable amount of money. Thanks.

The electric insert must be installed in an opening with the minimum dimensions 24 in. (61 cm) wide, 21.5 in. (54.6 cm) high and 12 in. (30.5 cm) deep. The fireplace does not require any additional venting. You must allow for air circulation around the unit.

Does it make a crackling sound?

No it does not make sounds. You can purchase the optional fire crackler sound system for realistic fire sounds.

Can the high back part be removed? Also my fireplace is tapered towards the rear. Is this unit tapered (more narrow towards the rear)?

The back is not removable. The entire unit is 12" deep and does not taper. As long as you have 12" depth at a min. of 23.188'' width this unit will fit.

can i use an extension cord?

No, that is not recommended.

On this deluxe model which side is cord, facing the unit left or right side?

The cord is on the right side facing the unit.

How much is the fire crackling sound effect system?

The Fire Crackler is $29.99

"We absolutely love our new fireplace. It gives out heat, is attractive and makes our living room very warm and cozy. We have lived in our home for almost 32 years and have never used the room more than we have this past winter. We have received many compliments on our wonderful new addition and are very happy we purchased it."

"Electric Fireplaces Direct told me this trim kit worked with the Dimplex fireplace I purchased.

"Delivery was fast. Flame is surprisingly realistic and provides a cozy ambience to the room. Would not count on it to provide much heat to an averaged size room. Bought to replace a wood burning fireplace that may have become "less than safe" for real fires. I actually find myself backing up to it. Happy with purchase."

"I bought an old house with a wood burning fireplace. Before using it I had it inspected and I needed a lot of fixing and money to bring it up to code. Everyone who sees it thinks it's gas- they don't believe I just unpacked it and plugged it in! Best online purchase I've made. Now I can enjoy my fireplace this winter. "I use this insert in my living room. My old wood burning fireplace needs a liner, and this was a cheaper option. It was received within a very reasonable time frame and I installed it myself within half an hour from delivery. I wish it would throw off more heat, and that the logs were a bit bigger to resemble actual pieces of wood. They are smaller than any piece of wood I used previously.
