Are you doubtful that an electric fireplace can have a realistic flame? Last month, Dimplex's OptiMyst technology received the coveted Vesta Award for innovation and Best-In-Show for the Hearth Products category at the Hearth, Patio and Barbeque (HPB) Expo in Orlando. But aren't you curious how the flame is created and how it is different from what is on the market today?
The OptiMyst creates a 3D illusion of flames and smoke by a very fine water mist that uses ultrasonic technology to shine light from below. As the mist rises through the log set, the wispy vapors take on the appearance of real flame and smoke. Other electric fireplace inserts have light that is projected behind the logs; whereas in this new innovation, flames come up from in between them. The result is a perfectly convincing illusion. And, because the fire is really just cool water vapor, it is completely safe and free from emissions. You can control the amount of heat, flames and smoke to suit your mood, which is not possible with other electric fireplace inserts.
The Dimplex electric fireplace comes equipped with a heater that can take the chill out of a room or be turned off completely to enjoy even in warm weather. This ventless fireplace simply plugs into any standard household power outlet, and the Optimyst water tank lasts for 14 to 17 hours of continuous operation before refilling is necessary. The electric fireplace insert also uses a built-in water recovery system in the form of a desiccant-based humidifier that pulls moisture out of the air, collecting it in the reservoir to create the Optimyst flame effect. At forty percent relative humidity, the water recovery system produces enough water in twenty hours to generate the flame for four hours. Dimplex estimates that it costs only two cents an hour to operate with the flame and smoke effect and just seven cents an hour with the heater and thermostat cycling at fifty percent.
The OptiMyst technology may just be the catalyst that converts you few remaining skeptics into true believers that electric fireplaces can look real.
